The HESI

The HESI A2 (Health Education Systems, Inc. Admission Assessment) is an exam required for admission to roughly half of the ADN and BSN programs in Texas. It covers three academic areas—English Language, Math, and Science—as well as personal assessment through the 9 following subtests: Readings Comprehension, Vocabulary and General Knowledge, Grammar, Basic Math Skills, Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology, Learning Style, and Personality Profile. Programs will specify which of these subtests are needed—so check ahead so you do not do more (or less!) than what is necessary. Testing and retesting policies vary between institutions with some allowing multiple retests and others only allowing one HESI to be taken per 12 month period, so inquire with programs that interest you for specifics.
