General Texas Nursing School Prerequisites
Prerequisites can differ slightly from school to school. It is the student’s responsibility to check with different schools for specific information. Taking the prerequisite courses at a junior college is acceptable for nursing schools. Most nursing programs frown on taking science courses in an online format. 

Group #1
- English: Composition I
- English: Composition II
- History: US History I or Texas
- History: US History II or Texas
- Government: Federal Government
- Government: Texas Government
- Sociology: Introduction to Sociology
- Philosophy: Introduction to Ethics
- Vis&PerfArts: Music, Art History, etc.
- Psychology: General Psychology
- Psychology: Lifespan Growth and Development (Psyc 2314)
- Statistics
- Nutrition
- Anatomy/Physiology I*
- Anatomy/Physiology II
- Chemistry I w/ lab
- Microbiology*
*Will require prerequisite courses which will vary according to the institution where they are taken.

Group #2
Chem II, Pathophysiology, and Pharmacology and nursing concepts.
Group #3
Private or religious institution, language, and religion courses.
- Some nursing schools will require letters of evaluation, which should come from a medical professional and/or professor. Each program will vary, it is important to know which programs will require letters and which will not.
- Each program will require an entrance test, the HESI or the TEAS which you should register for through the links provided at your favorite nursing program website.
- Be prepared to send official transcripts from every institution of higher learning that you have attended to either the programs directly or to the central application service (NursingCAS).
