Preparing Letters for Students

Students frequently need recommendation/evaluation letters for a variety of programs.  These range from admission to a professional program, participation in an internship, and summer medical school programs. In all cases your candid reflections are valued. The sample letter gives some helpful formatting and content tips, but in no way supercedes your judgment or preferences. Letters should be dated, signed, and on official letterhead.

Medical and dental school application letters are the only letters collected by the OPSA. These applicants will enter your name and email into the OPSA portal, generating an email to you which provides a link to the student's digital file. You will need to upload your letter and evaluation waiver using the instructions and link in the email. Should you have questions or concerns, please contact Ms. Dionne Thomas at OPSA-portal@tamu.edu or 979-847-8938. Typically, medical and dental letters are valid for up to one year from the date on the letter.

Many other professional programs use a national evaluation letter collection service:

Centralized Application Service for Physician Assistants
Law School Admissions Council
Nursing Centralized Application Service
Pharmacy College Application Service
Physical Therapy Centralized Application Service
While we will accept these letters mailed through the U.S. Postal Service, we prefer them to be emailed.
