My name is Johanna Aker, but you can call me Jo. I am Texas A&M class of 2006 and I received my bachelor of science degree in Ag Leadership and Development. During my career on campus I have worked for different departments until I came to OPSA in November 2013. My position here in OPSA consists of advising freshmen and sophomore students when it comes to pre-medical, pre-dental, pre-physical therapy, pre-physician assistant, pre-veterinary, and pre-pharmacy. I married my husband, Joe, in May 2006 at All Faith’s Chapel here on campus. We had our son, Drew in August 2010 and our daughter, Harper in January 2014. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with family and playing with my kids. I also like to read, listen to music and watch movies. My favorite weekly activity is family movie night. On these nights we usually watch a Disney movie of some sort and eat popcorn. I love all things Disney and my favorite character is Stitch, very mischievous yet fun loving and loyal

Best advice: Always dream BIG, because dreams do come true; never limit yourself!

2nd Floor, John J. Koldus Buildling

Brie earned her BS in Kinesiology and MS in Educational Human Resource Development from Texas A&M in 2002 and 2011 respectively. Prior to joining OPSA in March 2017, she was an academic advisor in A&M’s College of Engineering and Mays Business School and taught high school in the Bryan, East Texas and Houston areas.

Her advising philosophy is shaped by her role as a lifelong learner. Advising is about more than just choosing which courses to take; it is about an opportunity to teach students how to think critically about their futures. Each advising session allows her to learn about a student’s goals, so she can help him or her create a plan of action. She educates students on the resources available to them. Brie believes each student will get as much out of his or her education as they are willing to put in. It is her hope that her students are inspired by their time at Texas A&M University and move on to become ethical leaders and lifelong learners.

Best advice: Know your goals and ask questions so you can reach them.

A little about me
I am from the local area and went to school at Bryan High.  I have seen a lot of growth here in the Brazos Valley and more particularly here at A&M (it never seems to stop).

I am a Jesus warrior, an Aggie baseball/football fan, a die-hard New York Yankees FANATIC, and a mom to 3 awesome kids.  Sports is a big part of my life, anywhere from toting my son to and from practices/games to watching it on TV/in person.  My family enjoys worshiping Christ together, watching movies, hanging out, and trying to garden.

Education
I have a bachelor's degree in SPMT and a BUSI minor from Texas A&M University.

Volunteer Service
Every Christmas my youngest son and I can found volunteering for the Salvation Army, Twin City Mission, and Radio Mash.  I also volunteer for the Brazos County Cattle Barron’s Ball.
